Our Right To Breathe “Drishti”

We, The Explore Nepal Group, along with common citizens who are concerned about the degrading air quality in Kathmandu valley got together in Lalitpur to protest, pressurize the concerned government agencies and raise awareness amongst common people regarding the matter. The movement is called “Drishti”, which is a citizens movement to protest against the appalling status quo and all the mental, physical heath and economy related problems it brings. It is primarily a protest for Nepali people’s general “Right to Breathe” quality air that is enshrined in the constitution.

Kathmandu’s air quality was recently ranked the lowest among 180 countries which should be unacceptable to its citizens. Furthermore, the indifference shown by our government to curb air pollution by bringing in stringent policies and actions has prompted us to join “Dristi”.

The current problem is a concern for all of us who live in Nepal. Bharat Basnet has involved his company The Explore Nepal to work on this matter. He is now working with youth group to organise rallies and create awareness. We conducted a rally on Feb 14th-valentines day.

Any concerned citizen is welcome to be a part our campaign “Drishti”. Our rally marched to the premises of the Department of roads and demanded to know from the Minister, the reasons behind the sluggish response and urged the department to jump into action before any irreparable damages and lives lost from pollution induced diseases.
