Vulture Conservation Awareness Theatre for students, locals and environmental awareness in Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve

Due to rising death and illness of the Vulture population in the Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve where our Camp is located, we organized a Vulture Conservation and Awareness Program through Drama, Speech and Theatre performance for students and locals of the area. The reserve is one of the last refuge of Vultures in Nepal and its decline is very concerning. The scavengers were exposed to dangerous antibiotics when they fed on carcasses of dead domestic animals that contained the drugs in excess amounts. We taught the locals and children how the practice of using antibiotic medicines in vegetation and foods of domestic animals in large quantities can impact vulnerable wildlife of the park which are on the brink of extinction. We made locals aware of the relationship of their daily practices and the sensitive wildlife they live adjacent to and encouraged them to stop using drugs and dangerous chemicals in their daily farming and cattle feeding habits. Encouraging them to go organic and even teaching organic farming tips and methods was productive in helping to start changes in their practise.
